Woman in Art III

October 5 - November 9,  2022

1-3 pm

Bower's Museum, Kershaw Auditorium

Lecturer: Annalee Andres

Cost: $195

In this six-week session, Annalee Andres will continue to investigate the unique and interesting contribution of women in the arts.  As a continuation of an earlier series that focused on the role of Women in the Arts in America, this series will primarily focus on women who have contributed to the arts in the 20th century in a variety of ways as artists, dealers, collectors, business women, and advocates.   We will begin the series with a discussion of California based architect, Julia Morgan and consider her illustrious career which includes the unusual and renown Hearst Castle. This time, we consider the contributions of international artists so we will study the Women of Surrealism, the ever-fascinating Remedios Varo and Leonora Carrington. As ever, we will look at the career of women collectors and their contributions to the arts including that of Peggy Guggenheim. Women sculptors return when we examine the careers of Barbara Hepburn and Niki St Phalle.  Our series will conclude with a discussion of the subversive art of contemporary female photographers including Annie Leibovitz, Nan Goldin and Catherine Opie. You won’t want to miss this study of some of the most fascinating women of the 20th Century.
